Soap Making Class
Oct. 18th, 2009 | 11:03 pm
I'm going to start offering a soap making class for beginners. It will be a series of 2 workshops the first of which I will go over all the basic supplies, safety and techniques you will need to make soap. The second class will delve into the properties of more exotic oils and additives such as clay, herbs and essential oils. You will get to take home six bars of soap you created at the end of each class. These are great to give as gifts for the holidays or just to keep for yourself.
When: Sunday November 8th at 2pm
Where: Das Haus (342 17th ave)
Cost: $30
What to bring: An old towel
Anyone interested?

Last minute inspirations

I have almost always been a person who sits on the sidelines watching from afar, too afraid to participate in what is going on around me. I am slowly breaking out of this shell to become more a part of my surroundings and finding that I too can bring inspiration to other peoples lives the same way they do to mine.
This year for Burning Man I would like to make a sculpture out of items I have received from people who have touched my life. I want to inspire creativity and thoughtfulness in those who have an influence in my life so I am asking that you all make me something I can take to BM with me this year. It can be big, small, simple or intricate just so long as it came from your heart. I will take all these items and create, in essence, a collaborative physical representation of all the people in my life, a sort of tribute to my friends and family. It will be on display in our camp all week then I will take it to the temple to burn (nothing plastic please) on Sunday to represent the impermanence of all things.
I know this is very last minute and I have been rather lax in talking to people about my idea but I know I have to do this this year and it would mean a great deal to me if you could do this. I would need it in under 3 weeks.

I love my friends.
I had an absolutely lovely date Friday night. Saturday afternoon found me doing some chores and spending some time recharging at home. Then I went to Pot & Kettle's party where I was surrounded by awesome people and had a fantastic time. Sunday I spent the day at Das Haus starting with brunch among some of my closest friends and ending with me lighting my staff on fire for the first time! There was a motorcycle ride, art with M&Ms, beer, and lots of time spent on making my staff in the middle. Thanks to Luke, I now have a fire staff of my very own. I have blisters and a couple burns and I kinda smell like gasoline...I am pleased.

The first time I saw someone spin fire, I was immediately entranced. A couple summers ago I started to learn poi. I liked it OK but it didn't seem to stick with me. My life got a little crazy so it got put on the back burner where it was promptly forgotten.
My friend Tony took me to the park Sunday and showed me a few things with the staff. After that, I came home and disassembled my broom and haven't been able to put it down if I am at home. I even dreamt of spinning! I am in love. I hope to light up on the playa this year.

OMbloodyFG.
I had my consultation with my artist today and it turned out she had enough free time in her day to free-hand the art and start the tattoo. While entirely not prepared for this, I was excited. I did not expect the INSANE amounts of pain. I couldn't even finish it. I figured it would either be as bad or a little less painful as my hands. WRONG. However, it is gorgeous and my artist is a Goddess!
So now I'm limping around like a retard and seriously considering not getting my other ankle done. I go back in a month to get the rest done.
Now to go order something food like that is delivered.

My wonderful weekend of catastrophe

I went up to Scottish Lakes High Camp this weekend with some friends for snowshoeing and snotch (the name given to our previous discovery of scotch poured over snow).
Our snowmobile drive up the mountain in the dark was a bit cold but fantastic! In the morning we got up and had a leisurely breakfast and then went out snowshoeing. We got a little sledding in...I managed to make a beeline for the stump and have a bruises to show for it!
It was absolutely gorgeous out there. I got some great pictures but managed to loose the camera I had gotten for Christmas on a drunken trip out in the dark to retrieve fire wood. I'm pretty sure it fell out of my pocket when I fell waist-deep into the snow.
The next morning, thinking maybe I had left my camera in the main lodge where we had the potluck the previous night, I went over and looked around, asking the staff if perhaps they had seen it. No luck. I thought maybe I would look near the wood fired hot tub where I had stripped off my warm clothes and slung them over the railing after the potluck. We got maybe another foot or two of snow since I had been there last and the border of the tub and the platform were not visible. One tiny little step too far and before I knew it, I was standing in the hot tub which I will add was not so hot anymore. Yes, that's right, I fell in. I abandoned any further attempt of finding the camera and sloshed back to the cabin to dry my wet clothes.
I am sad to report failure in the search for my holy grail of coffee cups- I left my favorite coffee cup there a couple years ago. Seems a new tradition of leaving/loosing something each trip has developed.
To top off this fabulously hilarious trip...Luke, I think I might have left your book in the lodge. (The one I asked to borrow to pass the time while waiting for my boots to dry)
Synopsis- great trip, good people! Now I just have to decide where to go for NYE!

Do any of you know a good dermatologist? Preferably one who is trained both in western medicine and holistic practices.

I officially consider myself moved into my new place now. For any of you who don't know and actually care, I moved to 75th and Roosevelt a few weeks ago. It's the first place I have ever lived by myself and I am finding self reliance suits me well. It's providing me the environment I need to explore some needed personal growth.
My general state of mind lately has been one of self satisfaction at doing something so right for myself but at the same time, it's not entirely fun. It is so much easier to seek the things that satisfy our mundane humanly desires...yet so un-fulfilling.

I just spent the last 10 minutes of my life sitting in front of gramps' computer while he showed me a music video of snow patrol doing chasing cars and proceeded to rock out while singing along.
I have the best grandpa ever!

Does a person’s personality exist solely because of what we want to appear to other people? What if there were no one else on the planet, what would a person be like? It would seem that mundane things like fashion only exist because of other people. What are we truly and is what we strive to be only that which we want to see reflected in the eyes of another soul? It seems all the operations of life revolve around the effects of other people on our lives. We often times get so caught up in our own thoughts and desires but what consumes them is the cause and effect of the mass of humanity and the images is imprints in our minds.

I took my truck in for the brakes and they said I had another 6mo before I would need them replaced. They checked the brake fluid and the seals and everything seems to be in perfect working order. He said the problem I had could have just been an air bubble in the line. Yay for an inexpensive trip to the Autoshop!
I'll be going over to my grandparents this afternoon to work on my products pamphlet so I should be home later this evening say around 7 for the movie and festivities.
Does anyone have a some sort of CD player with speakers that I could borrow for the office until I get a working laptop?
